When were Traffic Lights Invented?

Traffic lights were invented in the United States and introduced in New York in 1918. Traffic lights are used to control the flow of traffic, determine the right of way at intersections and give greater safety to drivers. Traffic lights came to be used for the first time in Britain in 1928. Sixty years before this, the London police had introduced a system of traffic control signals based on the swinging arms of the semaphore.
