Why Are Manchester United Called the Red Devils?

Manchester United’s “Red Devils” nickname came from nearby Salford’s rugby league team and was adopted under manager Sir Matt Busby in the 1960s. The connection links two different sports through a shared local nickname. UEFA’s account traces Salford’s name to a French journalist who called the team “Les Diables Rouges” in 1934. That phrase means “the Red Devils.” UEFA says Busby later took a liking to the name. The Premier League’s crest history also credits him with adopting it from Salford. The nickname became a visual part of United’s identity: its badge includes a red devil holding a pitchfork below a three-masted ship. The ship has a separate origin in Manchester’s coat of arms and trading history. A single crest therefore combines a symbol of the city with a nickname borrowed from its sporting neighbourhood.

(i)The Hanging Garden of Babylon. They were a gift from king Nbuchadnezzar to one of his wives and were probably built high up on the walls of temples.

(ii) The Temple of Artemis at Ephesus (now in Turkey). This was one of the largest temples in the ancient world.

(iii) The Statue of Zenu at Olympia, Greece. Made of gold and ivory, the stature showed the king of gods on his throne.

(iv) The Tomb at Halicarnassus( now in Turkey). It was a huge tomb built for a persian ruler, Mausolus. It became so famous that all tombs are now called mausoleums.

(v) The Colossus of Rhodes in Greece. It is a huge, bronze statue of the Sun god, Helios and stood high over the harbour entrance.

(vi) The Pharos of Alexandria in Egypt. Built in 270 B.C. on the island of Pharos outside Alexandria harbour, it was the first modern lighthouse. It had a wood fire burning on top.


(vii) The Egyptian Pyramids. They are huge tombs built by Egyptians thousands of years ago and are great feats of engineering.

Strong winds can accelerate a wildfire by pushing flames toward fresh vegetation and carrying burning embers ahead of the main fire. They also bring a fresh supply of oxygen. Why Does Liverpool Wear an All-Red Kit?

Liverpool’s all-red home kit grew from manager Bill Shankly’s belief that a single strong colour would make his players look more imposing. In 1964, he began replacing the team’s contrasting white shorts and socks with red, creating the appearance closely associated with the club today. Liverpool had not always worn red. When the club was formed in 1892, its kit was blue and white. Red shirts arrived four years later, but the team continued to use contrasting shorts. On November 25, 1964, Liverpool wore red shirts and red shorts against Anderlecht at Anfield; the socks were still white. The change was completed for the return match in Belgium on December 16, when red socks were added. Shankly described the new appearance as psychologically powerful, though that does not prove a colour can determine results. How Do Electric Cars Recover Energy When Braking?

Electric cars recover some of their energy when slowing down by using the drive motor as a generator. The turning wheels drive the motor, which produces electricity that can be stored in the battery. Drawing energy from the wheels also resists their motion, so the car slows. This process is called regenerative braking. Ordinary friction brakes turn much of a vehicle’s energy of motion into heat. Regeneration captures part of that energy for later use instead. The U.S. Department of Energy explains that hybrids use the same basic principle: their electric motor generates electricity during braking and sends it to the battery. The amount recovered depends on the vehicle and the battery’s condition. For example, Tesla’s Model 3 manual notes that regeneration may be limited when the battery is cold or already fully charged. Conventional brakes remain necessary. The system reuses energy the car already had; it does not create an unlimited supply of electricity.
