Who was Leonardo Da Vinci?
Leonardo
Da
Vinci ( 1452-1519) was an Italian artist and inventor. He was a man of extraordinary genius. He seemed to
master any subject to which he turned his enquiring mind.
One of
his most famous paintings is the Mona Lisa. The gentle smile of La Gioconda or
Mona Lisa
has left
people wondering as to what she is smiling at. While making this portrait, Leonardo used
musicians,
singers and jesters to keep Mona Lisa smiling as he
painted.
He made
thousands of drawings and kept note of his observations in a secret back-to-front mirror
writing. He
wrote his lines from right to left with each letter reversed.
When viewed into a mirror, it looks like a normal writing. He worked
as an engineer for Italian nobles and for the French king and designed many forts and
canals. These canals
had locks too. He drew sketches of helicopter, a
flying machine, a machine gun, even before they were invented. He
was also
a good musician and singer.
