It advocates that economic and political systems should be based upon co-operation, state intervention to deal with social injustice, and central administration to ensure uniformity of treatment.

The Antarctica is a continent that surrounds the South Pole. It is a vast cold region with harsh climatic conditions. Very few animals can live in the freezing conditions there . These animals have large amounts of fat or fur to protect them. How is Air-traffic Control Organized?

A ir-traffic controllers make sure that planes take off and land safely and fly without any delays. The pilots are told where to fly so that no air collision takes place. The radar provides the air-traffic control staff with updated information about the exact position, destination and identity of every plane and about the weather conditions. When a plane is about 2,700 metres away from an airport and 600 metres above it, it enters the terminal control area. Working from this centre, the controller guides the pilot telling him at which height to fly or wait and circle the airport, when the plane has to land, etc. The controllers are also responsible for aircraft taking off and they also control planes throughout their flight from one airport to the next.

T he Mayan Empire, comprised of the Maya Indians, flourished in southern Mexico and Central America from about 250 AD to the 900s . They built cities of stone with richly decorated palaces , temples, pyramids and observatories. They were also skilled in astronomy and mathematics and had an advanced kind of writing. Their lives were controlled by religion and they had a number of gods. But, amazingly, the great Mayan cities were abandoned in the 900s for reasons unknown .

It was Naples in Italy, where pizza began as a dish for poor people. At first, they were made of bread with cheese, basil , salt and pepper. Tomatoes were added only after the discovery of America . Pizzas were made long before that. But because pizza is known throughout the world as a dish with tomatoes, it is more correct to look upon it as an Italian-American invention .

K arl Marx (1818-1883) was a political thinker and writer whose ideas brought about great social and political changes . He was born in Germany. His ideas were the starting point of communism. He believed that people who own property, the capitalist class, keep the workers down, so that the owners can become richer. He also thought that the workers would one day rise against the capitalists and take control. His ideas later inspired communist revolutions all over the world, notably the Russian Revolution .
