Where was the Biggest Volcanic Eruption?

The biggest volcanic eruption to have happened in history was in 1883, when the island of Krakatoa, in Indonesia, was blown to bits. Krakatoa was an island in the Sunda straits between the Indonesian islands of Sumatra and Java. Before the explosion of 1883, the island covered an area of47 sq. kms. The explosion was so intense that it could be heard by people 3,000 kms away in Australia and India. Rocks were hurled 55 kms up into the atmosphere and volcanic dust fell on places over 5000 kms away. For three years after the Krakatoa explosion, the fine dust in the upper atmosphere cooled the weather and caused amazing Sun-sets in Europe. A small volcano is growing on the remains of the old volcano today.
