How Big is Africa?

Africa has a land area of 30 million square kilometres, which is big enough to fit in North America and half of Europe. It is more than 8,000 km long from north to south and more than 6,000 km wide from east to west. Most of the continent is either desert or grassy savannah. Forests cover less than a fifth of Africa. Most of this forest is wet, tropical rainforest.
