Who was Robinson Crusoe?

Robinson Crusoe was the famous hero of an adventure story written by an Englishman, Daniel Defoe in 1719. The story tells how Robinson Crusoe, a sailor, got marooned on a desert
island after his ship got wrecked. Being the only survivor, he had to fight hard to survive all alone for many years and, later, he befriended a local boy whom he named Friday. Defoe got the idea for the story from the real-life tales of shipwrecked sailors. He wrote several novels including Moll Flanders.
