What is a Mime?

Mime is an art of acting in silence. A mime artist does not speak. Instead, his movements, gestures and facial expressions show how the artist feels. The artist must control every movement with great care so that the audience can follow the story. Mime was popular in ancient Greece and Rome when mimes were comic plays with absurd characters and were noisy with lots of acrobatics and juggling. Mime was popular in the Middle Ages too. Modern mime acting started in 1800s in France. Mime is used a lot in dancing, specially ballet.
