How is Air-traffic Control Organized?
Air-traffic
controllers
make sure that planes take off and land safely and fly
without any
delays. The pilots are told where to fly so that no air collision takes place.
The radar
provides the air-traffic control staff with updated information about the exact position,
destination and
identity of
every plane
and about the
weather conditions. When a
plane is about 2,700 metres away from an airport and 600 metres above it, it
enters the
terminal control
area. Working from this centre, the controller guides
the pilot telling him at which
height to
fly or wait and circle the airport, when the plane has to land, etc. The controllers are also
responsible for
aircraft taking off and they also control planes
throughout their flight from one airport to
the next.
