What is a Supercomputer?

The supercomputers are the mightiest computers and, of course, the most expensive. Supercomputers can process billions of instructions per second. Weather forecasting, oil exploration, weapons research are some of the areas in which supercomputers are used. Supercomputers are now moving toward the mainstream for activities as varied as creating special effects for movies and analysing muscle structures. Supercomputers can also produce super graphics. Today these supercomputers are fairly widespread.
