What is a Computer?

A computer is a programmable machine that performs high-speed processing of numbers, as well as of text, graphics, symbols, and sound. Modern computers are digital. The computer's physical components are called hardware; its programs and data are called software. All computers include these components: central processing unit, referred to as the CPU, that interprets and executes instructions.
•input devices, usually a keyboard and/or a mouse, through which data and commands enter the computer.
•memory that enables a computer to store programs and data.
•mass storage devices, such as disk drives and tape drives, that store large amounts of data; and

•Output devices, such as printers and display screens, that show the results after data has been processed by the computer.

Strong winds can accelerate a wildfire by pushing flames toward fresh vegetation and carrying burning embers ahead of the main fire. They also bring a fresh supply of oxygen. The National Park Service identifies wind, fuel and terrain as important influences on how a fire behaves. When wind bends flames closer to unburned grass or shrubs, those plants heat up more quickly. Sparks and glowing fragments can travel downwind and ignite separate fires, a process called spotting. As the National Weather Service explains, these new ignitions can greatly increase the rate of spread. Moisture matters too. Damp vegetation must lose water before it burns readily, while dry fuel catches fire more easily. Low humidity can dry fuels further. A steep slope adds another influence: rising heat can warm vegetation uphill. These interacting conditions explain why a fire’s behavior can change sharply as weather and terrain change.

Why Does Liverpool Wear an All-Red Kit?

Liverpool’s all-red home kit grew from manager Bill Shankly’s belief that a single strong colour would make his players look more imposing. In 1964, he began replacing the team’s contrasting white shorts and socks with red, creating the appearance closely associated with the club today. Liverpool had not always worn red. When the club was formed in 1892, its kit was blue and white. Red shirts arrived four years later, but the team continued to use contrasting shorts. On November 25, 1964, Liverpool wore red shirts and red shorts against Anderlecht at Anfield; the socks were still white. The change was completed for the return match in Belgium on December 16, when red socks were added. Shankly described the new appearance as psychologically powerful, though that does not prove a colour can determine results. How Do Electric Cars Recover Energy When Braking?

Electric cars recover some of their energy when slowing down by using the drive motor as a generator. The turning wheels drive the motor, which produces electricity that can be stored in the battery. Drawing energy from the wheels also resists their motion, so the car slows. This process is called regenerative braking. Ordinary friction brakes turn much of a vehicle’s energy of motion into heat. Regeneration captures part of that energy for later use instead. The U.S. Department of Energy explains that hybrids use the same basic principle: their electric motor generates electricity during braking and sends it to the battery. The amount recovered depends on the vehicle and the battery’s condition. For example, Tesla’s Model 3 manual notes that regeneration may be limited when the battery is cold or already fully charged. Conventional brakes remain necessary. The system reuses energy the car already had; it does not create an unlimited supply of electricity.

How Does Rugby League’s Six-Tackle Rule Work?

In rugby league, a team normally has a set of six tackles to use while it keeps possession. After the sixth completed tackle, it must surrender the ball to the opposition in a handover. Before that final tackle, play usually restarts with a play-the-ball. The tackled player gets to their feet, places the ball on the ground and makes a genuine attempt to play it backwards with a foot. A teammate positioned behind can then collect it and continue the attack. The referee signals the fifth tackle with a raised arm, warning that the next play is the last in the set. The count is not always a simple six-and-stop sequence. Certain defensive infringements can give the attacking side another set, and some changes of possession involve a ‘zero tackle’.
