When was the First Rocket-propelled Vehicle Launched?

The first rocket-propelled vehicle was launched by an American, Robert Hutchings Goddard in 1926. He used three-step rocket, which fired in succession and fuelled it with petrol and liquid oxygen. His rocket rose to a height of 60 meters. The first rocket to reach interplanetary space was a two-stage vehicle, which reached a height of 400 km in the space from New Mexico in 1949.
